Dear Colleagues

The spring is finally upon us! As the days get longer and nature prepares to bloom, we are also getting ready for our yearly highlight, the Annual Congress in Barcelona. Almost 300 members of the faculty from 46 different countries have already confirmed that they will join us at the EAACI Congress 2015. After a fruitful Marathon Meeting, the schedule is almost finalized and most rooms have been allocated. There is however still room for growth, the late breaking abstracts submission will close on March 31, so submit your findings soon. I sincerely hope that you will join us there!

This month saw the 10th Symposium on Experimental Rhinology and Immunology of the Nose, or more commonly known as the SERIN meeting take place with over 200 Rhinitis physicians and researchers from around the world gathered in Stockholm, Sweden from 19 – 21 March. This 10th meeting shows the solid support and depth of commitment of the practitioners in the rhinitis field.

I am pleased to announce the launch of the new European parliament interest group on allergy and asthma, which will be run by EAACI together with EFA, under the leadership of MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen. Many actions are needed if we are to contain the allergy epidemic, including research, improvement of medical services and public health programmes. With the establishment of this interest group, a major step forward has been taken.

Later this year EAACI will host the PAAM (Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Meeting) in Berlin on 15 – 17 October and ISMA (International Symposium on Molecular Allergology) in Lisbon from 19 – 21 November. This means that we have a busy year (as usual) ahead of us with many extraordinary meetings that I encourage you to join.

We have also rolled out the second wave for the Awareness Campaign, focusing on Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis. Supported by an online promotional phase, the wave is also supported by activities from the Pharmacist Societies, National Allergy Societies and Patient Organisations in numerous countries across Europe.

The role of Education is a significant one and I want to remind our members of the various activities we have planned for this year. Registration is open for the Asthma Allergy School being held in Istanbul from 16 – 18 April, as well as applications for the EAACI Knowledge Exam which will be held on Saturday 6th June.

An important demonstration of the vibrancy of EAACI is the elections for the Section and Interest Group Boards. I would like to thank all the candidates and all of you who cast your votes to let your voice be heard. The future of the Academy will continue to be shaped by you, the membership through the on-line public consultation of the revision of the EAACI Constitution. If you have not yet let us know what you think about the proposed amendments, please follow the links from the home page and share your opinion with us.

I wish you all an invigorating spring and look forward to seeing you in Barcelona!
