Liam o Mahony PhARF Award 2017

Liam O‘Mahony, PhD, Group Leader in the Department of Molecular Immunology at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland.


Motivation from the Scientific Committee: “Dr. O’Mahoney was one of the first to recognize the importance of the microbiota on the immune system. With over 100 scientific publications, Dr. O’Mahoney is clearly a rising star as he continues to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and clinical importance of microbial component activation of dendritic cells in patients with allergy and asthma, an area that promises to bring new insight into the pathogenesis and management of asthma and allergic diseases.”

Erik Melen PhARF Award 2017

Erik Melén, MD, PhD, Associate Professor and specialist in pediatrics at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), the Karolinska Institute and Lung and Allergy Unit at The Sach‘s Children‘s Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden


Motivation from the Scientific Committee: “Dr. Melén is the PI of the Swedish BAMSE birth cohort and has contributed both to the addition of new cutting-edge biomarker research in the studies, and to fruitful collaborations with leading international consortia both in Europe and overseas. With over 130 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Melén is clearly a rising star in the fields of allergy, epidemiology, genetics and pulmonology and promises to provide new insights into the effects of environment-gene interactions in allergy and inflammatory disorders.”
