In the Food Allergy Guidelines one of the research gaps identified was related to the evaluation of the products for special needs in allergy on the market mainly for cow’s milk children. The latest recommendations paper dates back 1999 ( Host A.et al Archives Diseases Childhood).
Given the presence in the market of products labelled as hypoallergenic with scarce, if any, documentation of hypoallergenicity there is an urgent need to update the previous recommendations and to advice adequately the health professional community and the companies.
