I became a Junior Member of EAACI when I started my training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Coimbra University Hospital in Portugal in 2005. During my training, I had the opportunity to work in two other European Centers of reference: the Department of Paediatric Allergy of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital/King's College London, led by Professor Gideon Lack, and the Laboratory of Allergy within the Department of Experimental Immunology of Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, led by Professor Ronald Van Ree. EAACI meetings, Post-Graduate Courses and Allergy Schools were also a very important part of my specialization.

I am currently a Senior Clinical Lecturer at King's College London and an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Allergy at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in London. I am very fortunate to work in this world-class clinical and research department and to combine clinical activity in Paediatric Allergy with translational research in the laboratory. My research has focused on improving the diagnosis of food allergy and exploring the immunological mechanisms underlying allergy and tolerance in food-sensitised children. My main research interests are food allergy, anaphylaxis and allergy prevention.

I have been a member of the Junior Members' Working Group (JM WG) of EAACI since 2011. From 2011 to 2013, I was the JM Representative of the Paediatric Section, and from 2013 to 2015, I was the JM Chair. It was a wonderful experience to be part of this incredible and very active group within EAACI, both from a professional and from a personal point of view. From a professional point of view, it was provided me with unique opportunities to participate in various EAACI task forces, collaborations with EAACI journals, organisation of the EAACI Congress, EAACI Focused Meetings and EAACI Allergy Schools, and many other aspects of the life of the Academy. From a personal point of view, it was an extraordinary incomparable enriching experience and great fun. Within the current and previous JM WG, I made friends for life!
