President's Note

February 2015

Dear Colleagues

I hope that you all enjoyed the holiday season with loved ones and friends and were able to find a moment to relax and unwind. The New Year is well and truly here and begun at a pace that indicates that we have an exciting 2015 ahead of us.

A major project of EAACI in the upcoming year is the development of the Allergen Immunotherapy Guidelines. The first meeting of the Steering Committee was held in Zurich this last week to map out the process and shape of the publication. This will be a milestone publication – so stay tuned for more updates.

Abstract submission for the Annual Congress in Barcelona, 5 – 8 June 2015 closed earlier this month with 1700 abstracts received. If you missed the deadline, but have hot news to communicate, don’t worry as Late Breaking Abstract submission will be open from 1 to 31 March 2015.

The EAACI premier event in the field of Rhinitis, SERIN, will be held in Stockholm from 19 – 21 March. As the 10th meeting, the well established tradition of high science with key members of this field, this will be a meeting not to be missed. Later in the year EAACI will hold the PAAM (Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Meeting) in Berlin on 15 – 17 October and ISMA (International Symposium on Molecular Allergology) in Lisbon from 19 – 21 November. So we have a busy year with some exceptional meetings to come and I encourage you to join these meetings.

The Allergy Awareness Campaign continues to gain momentum and will roll out the second wave in the coming weeks. This wave is focused on Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis and will be supported by an on-line component supported by a dedicated website full of information that is available in multiple languages. National Societies, community pharmacists and patient organisations are supporting partners in the rollout of this campaign to the general public. Keep up to date with the campaign by visiting www.bewareofallergy.com

The role of Education is a significant one and I want to remind our members of the various activities we have planned for this year. Registration is open for the Asthma Allergy School being held in Istanbul from 16 – 18 April, as well as applications for the EAACI Knowledge Exam which will be held on Saturday 6th June.

I wish you exciting and productive start to 2015 and I look forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.

Nikos Papadopoulos
