Allergy School on Drug Allergy in Children
Organisers: EAACI Drug Allergy Interest Group
22 – 24 September 2016
The aim of the Allergy School is to educate young clinicians and researchers interested in drug allergy and stimulate the scientific and social contact between them.
The following topics will be covered:
- Epidemiology and pathomechanisms of drug hypersensitivity
- Diagnosis of hypersensitivity drug reactions - clinical manifestation, indication and limitation of drug allergy tests: skin test, drug provocation test, lab tests
- Managing the child with a possible antibiotic allergy or possible drug hypersensitivity
- Specific problems in various drugs
- Specific problems - virus infection and drug hypersensitivity
The Allergy School will include lectures as well as practical workshops and case reports. The goal of the course is to teach attendees basic principles of drug allergy in children as well as a practical approach to diagnosing and treating children with possible drug allergy.
Additionally, attendees will gain knowledge of the theory of drug reactions in children and will be able to assess indications and contraindications for both in vivo and in vitro tests. You will be able to distinguish real drug allergy from coincidental virus infections in children. Ultimately, participants will implement guidelines of the assessment of drug allergy in children and thus improve the quality of both drug allergy diagnosis and therapy.
